Sketching Cirque du Soleil: Drawing inspiration from the big top

Sketching Cirque du Soleil: Drawing inspiration from the big top

I was reminded of the importance of keeping a lookout for fresh inspiration…whether it’s in something as small as noticing a fuchsia-colored flower on the sidewalk, or as grand as reliving a night with the Cirque du Soleil.

Behind the scenes: My first Sleep Story for Calm…and a giveaway!

Getting to write a Sleep Story about my time on a Tahitian black pearl farm for Calm was more than just a huge honor — it was a chance to return to one of my very favorite places in the world. Hope you enjoy it!

Moment Catchers sketching workshop: Choosing love and light

The recent events in Charlottesville, Virginia, still weigh heavy on my heart, but I’m grateful for the people in my own life, and for all of you in my community around the globe, who believe love must always win.

Around the world in 15 markets: On colors and connection

Markets have always had a way of drawing me to them. No matter how big or small, each market has a way of unlocking that place for me, letting me get to its very heart as I witness the local community coming together.

Sketching Vancouver: An unexpected return to the city

I once spent a couple of nights in Vancouver, before catching a ferry to nearby Salt Spring Island, so doing a live interview with a radio station in Vancouver this week was a fun and unexpected return to the city for me.

Moment Catchers sketching workshop: In praise of looking up

Teaching a sketching workshop reminded me of the power of our sketchbooks: That instead of looking down at our devices, sketching draws our gaze up and out into the world, where beauty and discovery await us.

#TalesonRail Artist in Residence program: Your chance to win!

As Alain de Botton writes in The Art of Travel, there’s nothing like a train journey to inspire creative thought — so I hope the #TalesonRail artist-in-residence will bring inspiration to our own Moment Catchers community.

Sketching Chile: Notes on piecing the puzzle together

In Valparaíso, Chile, it felt like nothing was too small for color, for attention, for transformation. And so, too, could I feel myself being transformed during my time in the city — especially my sketching style.

I fell in love with @onbeing years ago, back when I was traveling full-time, and I can still vividly remember where I was walking in the world as I listened to particular episodes.

These days, my journeys take place a little closer to home – often in the form of stroller walks around Montevideo, as Elena and I start exploring the world together.

But On Being is still a constant companion. Not only does it help me live the questions – as Rilke would say – but often, it helps me understand what questions I should even be asking in life.

Thank you, @onbeing, for always bringing wisdom and insights to my walks, and I can’t wait to begin passing them on now to my favorite little explorer 🤍

One of my latest illustration projects was one of One of my latest illustration projects was one of my favorites yet — a series of illustrated maps of Colombia for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Their new exhibition, “The Portable Universe / El Universo en tus Manos,” explores indigenous Colombian art, and to tell the story of how the exhibit came together, they also created a documentary that my maps and artwork were commissioned for. Thanks so much to @lacma and @agnes.stauber for the chance to be part of this special series! 🇨🇴✨
