Sketching Workshops & Tours
As much as I love the internet for making the world a little smaller and more connected virtually, my heart will always thrive off the power of in-person connections — especially when it comes to learning and teaching. There’s just a special kind of magic that happens when we’re together face to face, in real time, that creates sparks of serendipity and leaves us with indelible lessons.
For that reason, I’m thrilled to be offering two special sketching workshops in 2018, in two very special locations — and I hope you can join me for one or both of them!
Catch the Moment
Art + Yoga Retreat
Leyden, Massachusetts | August 16-19, 2018
In an age when life’s everyday moments are far too fleeting, this 4-day/3-night art and yoga retreat is an invitation to slow down, breathe deeply, and be more present in your life — through the power of creativity, movement, and nature.
Set amongst the tranquil woods, streams, and meadows of the Spirit Fire Retreat Center, each day will begin and end with carefully sequenced yoga sessions in a peaceful, sunlit studio, led by Marci Rubin — bringing you back to the present in your body, mind, and soul. I will also be leading twice-daily sketching workshops in the dedicated art barn, as watercolor sketching is another incredible medium for observing the world around us — and within us — more mindfully.
In between, there will be plenty of time for savoring organic, home-cooked meals; hiking secluded trails across the 95-acre property; and bonding by the campfire at night. In the end, you’ll not only return home refreshed and rejuvenated — you will develop powerful ways of catching more extraordinary moments from your life.

Watercolor Sketching Tour
& Workshop in Portugal
Porto + Lisbon, Portugal | September 10-16, 2018
I first began traveling with a sketchbook in 2011, on a weekend trip to Portugal — seven years later, I’m thrilled to return for the first time, to lead a 7-day/6-night watercolor sketching tour. Join me in Portugal as I share my own sketching processes with you, and we set out to sketch together in this unique workshop that marries creativity, culture, and connection:
#1 – Creativity
Whether you’re looking to hone and develop your sketching skills, or discover them for the first time, creativity will be at the heart of this tour. I’m especially excited about the series of in-depth workshops we’ll have on three mornings of the trip, which will cover everything from drawing and composition to watercolors and post-production (i.e. scanning your sketches and creating high-resolution digital versions of your artwork).
#2 – Culture
One of the biggest reasons I love travel sketching is for the way it helps us create rich, vibrant memories of the places we’re exploring — and so, too, will sketching help us absorb and record the culture and traditions of Portugal. From the northern city of Porto to the historic neighborhoods of Lisbon and lastly to the villages of Sintra and Cascais, we will slowly work our way down the coast of Portugal, keeping our senses on high alert as we capture this beautiful country in our sketchbooks.
#3 – Connection
Finally, grow your courage and comfortability with sketching on-location, discovering the meaningful way in which sketching helps us unlock deeper connections with a place, with others, and ultimately, with ourselves.
